I Canceled Cable and I Don’t Miss It at All

Cut the. cable cord

I cut the cord. And nothing fell apart.

The cable box is gone. The clutter, the fees, and the passive scrolling left with it. A calmer feeling and more money in my account each month remain.

I’d been holding onto cable out of habit, not love. Every time I turned it on, I bounced between the same channels, watched shows I didn’t care about, and sat through commercials I’d already memorized.

Switching to streaming lowered my bills, but it also shifted how I spend my downtime. Now I build my own lineup, tailored to my mood.  No flipping or waiting, but deliberate choices that match my energy.

Some nights, it’s a quiet documentary and a warm mug of decaf. Other nights, it’s sitcoms from my childhood or a deep dive into true crime. There’s something oddly luxurious about knowing exactly what you want and hitting play.

The content? It's in another league. The writing feels intentional, and the visuals are cinematic. Even indie creators and YouTubers are producing better stories than I used to get from premium cable. The entire media landscape has shifted, and streaming is where the best of it lives.

Instead of one bloated monthly bill, I pay for a few services at a time, such as Netflix, Sling, or Paramount+.  I pause and switch to something else when I've seen what I want. It's flexible, low-commitment, and simple.

Afraid to miss live sports and local news? They’re still accessible. There are apps, free streams, and seasonal add-ons if I want them. Dropping cable didn’t feel like giving up something. It felt like stepping into a new rhythm. One that costs less, gives more control, and lets me decide what’s worth my time.

Hi, thanks for stopping by!

Hi there! I’m Susan.

I’m writing to you from sunny Florida, where I live, save, and soak up every bit of good living I can… without breaking the bank. This blog is all about finding that sweet spot between enjoying life and being smart with your money. Whether it's stretching your grocery budget, finding joy in the little things, or making your home feel cozy on a dime, I’ll be sharing tips, tricks, and real-life wins.

Living well doesn’t have to mean spending big,and I’m here to prove it. So, grab a cup of coffee (or iced tea, if you're in the heat with me), and let’s get started.

Welcome to the journey!
